The Constitution is a document approved by the General Membership of the CUS (the Sauder student population). It dictates how the CUS is organized, how decisions are made on behalf of the student body, and details the responsibilities of elected officials. You can download a copy of the current Constitution and past versions here:

CUS Constitution History:

On February 1st, 2009, the General Membership of the CUS voted in a referendum to make one of the largest constitution amendments in the history of the CUS. This Constitution created the CUS Board of Directors. The CUS Constitution was developed by a team of seven Sauder students forming the Policy Reform Committee 2008-2009: Chris Ho, Emily Wan, Erika McCoy, Jenn Lai, Laura Silvester, Mark Gunther, and Max Miller.

March 2009 marked the beginning of a new journey for the Policy Reform Committee and its new members from the CUS Board of Directors. Over the course of the next year, the PRC began to draft and proposed a new series of policies for the Commerce Undergraduate Society. While work on drafting the policies continues to this date, the committee has made great strides to clarify operational ambiguities and set standards for progress within the Society. In January 2010, the Policy Reform Committee was renamed the “Policy and Procedures Committee”  and granted the status of a standing committee by the CUS Board of Directors.

November 2010, the CUS Board of Directors, under the direction of the Policy and Procedures Committee and Chair Senator Chad Embree, reviewed the Constitution once again after discovering that some minor changes needed to be made in order to make the implemented changes from 2009 more efficient and effective. Specifically, these changes were around the size of the Board of Directors and the relationship with CUS Recognized Clubs. These changes were passed by a referendum of the general membership in February, 2011
