The First Year Committee consists of 7 well-rounded individuals appointed by the CUS to plan and execute fun events aimed at bringing together Sauder’s first year students

Getting to know us:

Andrea Yeung – First Year Coordinator

Andrea Yeung was born and raised in Vancouver, B.C.  Although she is a commuter student, she is greatly looking forward to her experiences as First Year Coordinator of the CUS. Outside of school, she has a diverse range of interests including singing, acting, playing ultimate, and texting. She knows that this year will be full of awesome events, and is excited to be serving such an amazing student body! She hopes that her experiences and passionate nature will come together to make your first year as memorable as possible!

Kaitlin Arciaga – Committee Member

Having lived in three countries, Kaitlin Arciaga has traveled quite a bit; this year, though, Kaitlin has spent most of her time travelling to and from school on the bus.  When not madly cramming in Irving, you can find her watching movies, reading classics, baking in the sun, and attempting to bake cookies. Like the rest of the committee, she is looking forward to making your first year filled with exciting events!

Ali Birston – Committee Member

Ali Birston is an enthusiastic first year with tons of Sauder spirit! She grew up in North Vancouver, however currently calls Totem her temporary home. A big part of her life and passion has always been dance, however she also loves sushi and baking.  Her dreams include to one day take the stage on So You Think You Can Dance, travel to the planet’s most exotic locations, and ultimately to make a difference in the world! She is loving her first year in Sauder so far and is hoping to make it even more exciting as a part of this year’s first year committee!

Lauren Bruce – Committee Member

Lauren Bruce was born and raised in London, England, moved to Canada in 2004 and has spent the past 5 years living in White Rock.  She is a dance-loving, shower-singing, sushi addict that has traveled the world with her family and is still looking for a good enough excuse to keep her Christmas decorations up all year round.  She loves all different aspects of business (budgeting, marketing, managing etc) that all work together to put on a successful event and cannot wait to use this passion to serve on your First Year Committee.  Email her to suggest any event ideas that you think that First Year Committee can help you out with (or if you have an excuse she can use to keep up her decorations).

Kimberley Chung – Committee Member

Kimberley Chung is loving her first year in the Sauder School of Business and is quickly picking up on the transition from High School to University. She has lived in Vancouver her whole life but she has traveled to many places around the world. She is a competitive synchronize swimmer and is currently swimming on the UBC Varsity Synchronize Swimming Team. She also enjoys playing tennis, cooking/baking, and lounging back to watch her favourite T.V shows. She is very excited about working with the First Year Committee this year and hopes that all the First Year’s have a blast too!

Lily Leung – Committee Member

Lily Leung is one of the most spontaneous girls you will ever meet. One minute she will be sitting in Lemche’s Econ class, the next she will be tap dancing on a bench in front of Irving K. Although she has lived in Vancouver since she was four years old, Lily has traveled to numerous places around the world (ahem eighteen countries to be exact). In her spare time, she enjoys singing karaoke, knitting, and memorizing pi. She is extremely thrilled to be on the First Year Committee this year and she looks forward to organizing amazing events for first years! Daria Panteleeva – Committee Member

Daria is a zealous and excited first-year commerce student who was born and raised (you will never guess where!!!) in Moscow, Russia. She moved to Canada 3 months ago only but she absolutely adores it here in Vancouver and loves everything about her unforgettable experience of studying at UBC. Apart from being a hard worker, Daria plays piano, dances (she used to do the ballroom dance but this year she decided to plunge into the world of hot Latin American salsa) and gets rid of stress in pilates class!  Daria dreams of climbing the Mount Everest, discovering hidden treasure, and making a difference in the world! She hopes that being a member in the First Year Committee will be the first step on the long way of making her wishes come true.

1. Sauder Celebrities Dance

What: A dance organized for Commerce students with priority going to First Years.  All other Commerce/non-Commerce students will go on a waiting list for tickets.  If we still have tickets left by Feb 10, we will be contacting students on the waiting list and offering them tickets
Where: Thea Koerner Graduate Center’s “Thea’s Lounge”
When: Friday, Feb 12th from 8pm – 12am.
Price:
- Tickets for the week of Feb 2 – Feb 5 –> Commerce $12 / non-Commerce $14 (Early bird)
- Tickets for the week of Feb 8 – 12 –> Commerce $15/ non-Commerce $17 (Regular Price)

Past Events

1. Come Celebrate Christmas with the First Year Committee!
What: To celebrate the last day of classes and the winter holiday, the First Year Committee will be giving away free holiday goodies (hot chocolate, candy canes, etc.) Santa may also make an appearance, but only if you’ve been good this year!  An event suggestion box will be set up, and anyone who fills out an event suggestion ballot will be eligible to win a $10 Starbucks gift card.
